so…. it has been several months since I’ve updated this! There has been so much that miss Poppy has done! She has been to Florida twice since she has been born. The last time she went at the end of April and got to see great grandma and great grandpa, cousin whitney, great aunt brenda & cheryl. She also got to see her grandma nina and grandpa jeff!

When she was in Florida she got to go to the beach for the first time! She loved the sand but the water was too cold for her!

Poppy started teething at 6 months and got her first tooth at 7 months and another a few weeks later. She is now eating all different kinds of baby food and started drinking out of a cup at 6 months. I make a lot of her food but I also feed her jarred food because I’m so busy! She likes to eat organic puffs, bananas, tortillas, pitas, and blueberries. She started crawling at 7 months and pulled herself up on furniture.

At 8 months she is crawling EVERYWHERE and getting into EVERYTHING! She can stand for a few moments not holding onto anything and can walk when she is holding onto other pieces of furniture.

She is saying mama, buh buh, dada, and screams a lot. We don’t know if she “gets” what she is saying but she acts like she’s talking in conversations.

She got another haircut because her hair was all over the place!!

Poppy also has started swimming lessons which she loves! She just smiles and splashes and will try and jump into our arms off the side of the pool.

Poppy is 5 months old already!! She had her 4 month appt and everything went well. She got her shots, I cried, she cried, she pooped, etc… She weighed 12lbs 11 oz and was 23 1/2 inches long. I just weighed her recently and now she weighs 13 lbs. She is still wearing 3-6 month clothing and still has a couple newborn or 0-3 months she can still squeeze into!

Poppy rolls over, creeps around on her belly (a pre-cursor to crawling according to parents.com), she yells, laughs, and “talks”. She has been doing most of those things except pre-crawling since month 3 but now she has them all mastered down! It is so funny because I will put her in her crib or on the floor and she will flip around like a little monkey and she will manuever around so she is at the opposite end of her crib facing the other direction!

Poppy’s hair is getting lighter and has a reddish tint to it. It is almost exactly my same hair color it is so funny!! She also needs her bangs trimmed but Jake likes her to look like she has a wig on I guess!

We love her “talking” and yelling and cooing. She will mimic our sounds and it is so neat. I kept saying hi to her over and over one day and she repeated hi back to me. Obviously she has no idea she is saying hi and she didn’t mean to but I was still like oh my gosh she said hi. She said hi! ha ha

We have given poppy cereal twice and she seemed to like it. I have just been breastfeeding though because it is so much easier! I will start giving her cereal more often once she seems like she is not full on just milk. I think she will be a good eater. I hope anyways!!

Poppy is 15 weeks old and I can’t believe it!! She’s getting bigger and bigger! She weighs 12 lbs according to our scale here. She has her 4 month appointment on 2/2/10 to get some shots and I can’t wait to see how much she weighs at the doctors office and to see how long she is!! Her hair is getting longer which is hilarious because it just looks like a little Beatles wig on her!

Here are some of Poppys favorite things:

1. The puppies (she laughs at them and it is THE BEST!)

2. Baths (she loves baths she splashes and smiles the whole time)

3. Things in her nose (I don’t know why but she loves it when I put the syringe bulb in her nose…weirdee)

4. Kisses on her mouth

5. Being swung in the air

6. Swinging in her swing

7. Rides in the car

8. Mom and Dad blowing on her tummy

9. Mom and Dad singing to her

10. Milk

11. Getting her diaper changed (again I’m not sure why she likes it ha ha)

12. Her mobile

13. Her playmat

14. Ceiling fans

She still hasn’t transitioned into her crib yet because I like her in her bassinett right by me

She usually goes to bed in between 9 and 10 and she will wake up at 3:00 to eat and then around 7:00. Some nights she will sleep longer some nights she gets up every 2 hours still!! I’m used to it so I don’t mind much but I do love the nights she sleeps longer!

I’m going back to work but I hope I can rearrange my schedule so she is only with Jake or I since I don’t really have anyone here to watch her.

Christmas was fun. Poppy got so many presents but she doesn’t even know!! Her grandmas and grandpas really spoiled her. I told them to not overdo it or she will become a Christmas monster!

<img data-attachment-id='190' data-orig-size='2576,1932' data-liked='0'width="150" height="112" src="http://jnthomas.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/christmas-11-weeks-to-14-weeks-003.jpg?w=150&h=112" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="christmas 11 weeks to 14 weeks 003" title="christmas 11 weeks to 14 weeks 003" />

Poppy went on her first plane ride to go see my family in Florida! We missed our flight to Atlanta because I was driving to the airport in freezing rain and snow! I was freaking out! But, we got on the next flight only to get into Atlanta and have some lady with Airtran tell me I missed my connecting flight to Tampa. Well, she told me the wrong information and I actually hadn’t missed it but ended up missing it because I was standing in line at customer service!! So…me and Poppy had to hang out in the airport for 4 hours!! Let me just tell you that was not fun. We finally got to Florida ad got to my grandparents house and they were very excited to see us! They all loved her and Poppy loved being in warm weather (so did I)! Now we are back and we are both freezing!

Poppy slept the whole way home from Orlando to Minneapolis. She only got up to eat. My arms were very tired from holding her the whole time! The flights to Florida she got a little fussy because I think her ears hurt and she didn’t want a pacifier and she wasn’t hungry. Changing her diaper and going to the bathroom with her in those tiny airplane bathrooms was also quite the experience but we survived!

I was supposed to be induced on 10/4/09 but at my doctor’s appointment on the 29th of September my doctor asked if we could change it to me going in the next night! Her whole reason for inducing me early was because she thought the baby would get bigger outside my womb. The plan was to go in on Wednesday night (9/30/09) and get cervidil and then the next day 10/1 I would get pitocin. At the doctor’s appointment on the 29th I was 90% effaced and dilated to a 2. Those were all good things! So, she thought the cervidil could put me into labor on my own.

Wednesday the 30th I went to work until noon and came home and cleaned like a crazy person and got things in order at home. I got ready for the hospital and waited for Jake to come home from work. I made a CD to listen to while I was in labor with relaxing music and music I really like. We got all our stuff ready went to family video and rented a movie to watch that night (thinking we were going to be sitting around and wanted to have some fun). We got to the hospital and we checked in at the ER at 6:30 p.m. (that’s where my dr told us to check in). It felt weird going in there leisurely like yes I’m having a baby please check me in. So, they came and got me in a wheelchair (I told them I could walk but it was policy) which felt pretty silly. We get to our room and I have to put on an awesome hospital gown. I thought geez why did I spend so much time picking out an outfit if I’m going to immediately put this ugly HUGE thing on. So then I got into the bed and got hooked up to a monitor for them to monitor the baby’s heartbeat, my heartbeat, and my contractions. Then the fun began…. They insisted on starting an IV because if there was an emergency they wanted to be able to be prepared and I was getting pitocin the next day. So, 5 people tried to get an IV started! By the time they got one in I was bawling because they had stuck me 9 times and it was very painful. I was bleeding out of both arms and my left arm was swollen and already bruised. I thought oh this is a GREAT start! They finally got an IV in my hand and it HURT like throbbing non stop pain. Then the on call doctor came in with a resident (Mercy is a teaching hospital) and said they couldn’t give me cervidil because my contractions were too strong and too close together. I didn’t know if that was good or bad…? So, the dr decided to just start pitocin. They started pitocin around 8 or so (since it took them an hour and a half to start my IV). The resident then checked me and said I was 0% effaced and 0 cm dilated. I was like uh what how could I go backwards?? I told him that the day before @ the doctor’s office I was 90 and 2. The nurse then checked me and sure enough I was 90 and 2. I was like good grief! Once they started the pitocin my contractions were even closer together. So, they stopped the pitocin around midnight. While this was all going on Jake’s mom, Deb, drove up to take care of our farm of dogs and bring Jake quiznos. So, Jake was enjoying a sandwich while I was STARVING (I didn’t eat before going to the hospital b/c I was so nervous and I was afraid I would throw up in labor). The nurse then came in and said I should try and sleep (Jake was sleeping already). She said the dr ordered a sleep med and a shot of morphine for me to sleep. She came in and gave the medicine to me - an awesom shot in my butt. I kept waiting for this awesome sleep cocktail to kick in…..nope nothing. I laid in bed awake almost all night. The nurse came in to check on me every hour to two hours and she would say you’re still not sleeping..? I kept asking her when the medicine would start working. Yea not a fun night I was so tired but no sleep. Jake was just sleeping and snoring away. I kept staring at him wanting to throw things at him.

The next morning the nurse came in to wake me up b/c they were going to start the pitocin at 6 (I had just dozed off around 5 a.m. ). I took a shower with my painful IV and it took forever for me to shower b/c they had to wrap that dumb IV site and it was like I didn’t have a right hand!!! They then got another nurse (an ER nurse) to come in and fix my IV! She got an IV started in my arm on the FIRST TRY! I was like oh my gosh where were you last night when they had everyone trying and Iwas bawling!! I was so thankful and felt like a million bucks then. They started the pitocin again and I then just sat there and waited and waited. They kept coming in to check me (which is not a fun experience by the way) and I kept asking for food and drinks!! ha ha. I snuck a few bites of Jake’s breakfast and then lunch. My doctor came in around 10 or so and decided to break my water. She broke my water at 10:52 a.m. I kept thinking ok I will be having a baby really soon now. No…. I waited and waited some more!!! By this time my parents were there and Jake’s mom. They were all sitting in the room with Jake and I and we kept waiting and waiting. My contractions were about 1 min to 3 min apart for hours! Looking back on it now I can’t even remember the day really! Jake slept majority of the day while I stared at him, still wanting to throw things at him bc I was tired and starving. Finally, around 8 pm (again can’t remember the exact time) that night I was dilated to an 8 I think or maybe a 6 or 7. Maybe it wasn’t even 8 at night I have no idea. I felt pressure to push and that’s why they checked me again. All I knew it was closer to 10 then so I was glad. All I wanted to do is sleep though. I started getting a fever so they gave me some tylenol and I fell asleep! But, it was definitely interrupted. Apparently (again I barely remember all this now) the baby’s heart rate kept dropping or was irregular so the nurse kept moving me around putting pillows here and there and then taking them away and then adding more and then they put me on oxygen. All I kept thinking was I WANT TO SLEEP stop poking at me!! I was sooo uncomfortable and just wanted the baby to be here NOW!

The nurse checked me and then the dr and they said I was at a 10 and I could start pushing! So I did. 30 hours of labor and two hours of pushing the baby was here at 2:28 a.m. and the dr said it was a girl! I was soo excited and they gave me the little peanut and we told everyone her name, Poppy Tallulah (which we kept a secret the whole time I was pregnant). I couldn’t believe how much hair she had!! It was a full head of thick black hair!! They then took her from me, weighed her and checked her. I kept asking how much she weighed since they totally freaked me out about her being small! And she was 6lbs 11oz and 20 inches long! The doctor said see she is perfecty healthy!! I was sooo glad!

Jake then went out to the waiting room where my parents, his mom, two sisters, and our 6 year old nephew were all waiting. They came in after the dr was done “repairing” me and they all got to see her and hold her. I immediately wanted something to eat and drink since I felt like I was being starved!!!

After all the commotion they moved us into a post delivery room. Jake fell asleep immediately, I again was in bed with no sleep. This time it was because I was too excited about Poppy! It also didn’t help that nurses were coming in every couple hours to draw my blood, check my bottom, and give me pain medication.

Jake and I finally got to watch the movie we rented (there were dvd players in the room) and Poppy got to watch too!! My best friend Kristin drove 4 hours with her mom to come see Poppy! I looked like death but I was soo glad to see them! My parents and Deb were still in town and they visited us at the hospital too.

Sunday 10/4 we got to go home and Jake’s dad, brother and his girlfriend came up to see little Poppy! The dogs of course were very interested in Poppy and kept trying to lick her!

I was in the hospital for 5 days but I didn’t mind bc I was without sleep from Wednesday night until Friday night. I didn’t change a single dirty diaper in the hospital!! Jake changed her diapers ha ha!

She is such a quiet little baby!

Poppy is doing good! At her 2 week appointment she was back to her birth weight (babies can lose 8 to 10% of their body weight afterbirth). Her jaundice has gone away and she is still a quiet little thing. I have to wake her up to eat during the day and at night she wakes up every 2 to 3 hours. I am VERY VERY tired but I love little Poppy girl and she is definitely worth being exhausted for!

My parents were here for a week after Poppy was born to help me with things like the farm of dogs we have and my mom cooked us dinner. They already came back up last weekend to visit little Poppy.

Jake had to go back to work a few days after we came home so I was glad my mom and dad were here.

Poppy’s belly button fell off days after coming home. It actually happened at the dr’s office. I, of course, freaked out!! It is healed nicely now so I guess I didn’t need to freak out!

The dogs are getting better with Poppy. At first they just would not leave her alone! Nakoma especially loves Poppy. He’s very interested in what she’s doing all the time!

Poppy already has many nicknames from Jake and I. We like to call her Poppy girl, Mookie, Mookie bear, saspirilla, etc. Don’t ask what the names mean or where they come from b/c we don’t know ha ha!!!

All I know is we love her so much and I’m so grateful she’s here and healthy!

We are at 37.5 weeks! The baby is now 5lbs 5oz (per the ultrasounds)!! We are still measuring small but the baby has gotten bigger and so have I! So we are glad about all of that! I’ve been trying to eat as much as I can and I stopped working out per the doctor. We started the baby room but it is still not finished darn it!! Hopefully I don’t go early and hopefully it is done soon. I’m still going to the doctor twice a week and getting ultrasounds every week too. All my non stress tests show contractions which I’ve been having for several weeks. They started probably around 30 weeks or so. She also said I’m dilated to a 1 and I’m 50% effaced.

Jake and I went to a birthing class on Monday and we have one more this upcoming Monday 9/21. I knew pretty much everything the instructor was talking about b/c I’ve been reading 2 pregnancy books and I’m on a lot of pregnancy websites. However, I’m pretty sure Jake didn’t know any of it ha ha!!

Jake and I tailgated last weekend for the Iowa vs Iowa state game. It was really fun and you will see my new belly pics!!

My parents brought up our crib, changing table, and stroller travel system on Sunday. My dad also installed my carseat (he’s a certified tech) – so no worries there!! We have to wait until the baby room is done and then we will put the crib and changing table together.

I’m definitely not wanting to go sooner than 40 weeks. I want the baby to get bigger and we still need to do so much for the room and there are still quite a few things I need for the baby!!! I’m definitely not uncomfortable yet and can pretty much do everything I could before (except what my dr. told me not to do).

My very good friend pictured pregnant with me in previous entries had her baby on 9/14. Bear Kinnick Boynton – 9lbs 1 oz 21 inches long. He’s a cutie!!! I think he will be able to bench press our little peanut ha ha!!

We are 35 1/2 weeks! Only 4.5 to go I will post some new pictures soon. Although I have not grown much We had another baby shower back in the quad cities and it was awesome! Angie Boynton and Trisha Fritz threw the shower for me and it was great. Baby and I are measuring small so now we have to go to the doctor twice a week. I have to get a non stress test and ultrasound every week. The doctor told me no more working out and I have to rest as much as possible. She also wants me to gain a lot more weight. She said not to worry too much because she had the same thing when she was pregnant. She said the baby will most likely weigh around 6 LBS. The baby right now weighs 4 LBS so it is a tiny little baby but the doctor said that was okay because I’m a tiny person and tiny people have tiny babies. With all the ultrasounds I’m getting I have a lot more ultrasound pictures too!! One really awesome thing the ultrasound tech said is the baby has tons and tons of hair already!!! She could see it in the ultrasound. I was pretty excited about that – no bald baby woo hoo!! It has a tiny little mullet already!!! Tiny baby with a tiny mullet!!!

I’m pretty bummed about having to lie around the house when I get off work and no working out but I will do it for the bumble!!!

Jake is doing awesome too – he’s walking! So we can FINALLY start the nursery this week thank the Lord.

Jake and I went home this past weekend to the quad cities for my baby shower on Sunday. It was so fun to have my own baby shower! We got a ton of really really nice gifts. We still don’t have a nursery yet to put our baby stuff in but hopefully Jake will feel well enough to start it soon. Here are some new 32 week pictures. Only 8 more weeks left!! I keep having dreams I’m in labor and then I wake up in a frantic state ha ha – thank goodness it’s just my crazy mind!!! I still feel really good. I’m very grateful I feel so good especially with Jake out of commission. (I’m still doing pretty much everything around here – Jake is very anxious to help though!) I’m starting to see the doctor every 2 weeks now. Everytime they measure me I’m exactly at the week I’m supposed to be so I’m growing just as I should be. My weight gain has been very minimal so I’m glad for that. I’m still working out regularly which I’m glad I feel up to doing because I looove to go to the gym. The only thing I’ve noticed is my face getting more round… guess I’ll just have to deal until the baby is here. I can’t really complain though!
